We're delighted to announce that Amba Press has acquired the complete works of Lindy Petersen, including her celebrated Stop Think Do social skills training program and her parenting guide Social Savvy.
This acquisition forms part of our broader transfer of titles from ACER Press, and it's one we're especially proud of. Lindy's programs have supported schools, teachers and families for years, and we're committed to keeping her work in the hands of the people who rely on it.
About Stop Think Do
Stop Think Do is an Australian social skills program built for classrooms. It supports children who experience emotional, social or behavioural difficulties that make friendships harder, and it works equally well as preventive curriculum for any classroom.
The program is grounded in a simple, memorable framework. Children learn to STOP and understand their feelings, THINK about their options and the likely outcomes, and DO the appropriate behaviour. Because teachers model these same skills alongside their students, the program builds a genuinely cooperative classroom culture, one where academic progress tends to follow.
This revised and extended edition brings the program up to date, with current research, visual resources, simplified lesson formats and practical guidance for a range of settings, including special needs support, peer mediation and whole school programs. Parents are encouraged to get involved too, extending the learning beyond the classroom.
The collection spans three age ranges:
Stop Think Do Social Skills Training 4–8 for the early years of schooling
Stop Think Do Social Skills Training 8–12 for the primary years
Stop Think Do Social Skills Training 12–15 for the middle years
Each edition includes lessons tailored to its age group, an overview of the traffic light training posters, and pre and post program assessments so schools can track progress.
About Social Savvy
Social Savvy takes Lindy's approach out of the classroom and into the home. It's a practical guide for any adult caring for children, covering how to respond when a child misbehaves, how to help children make friends and fit in socially, and how to build a stronger relationship with your child along the way.
Rather than reacting impulsively in difficult moments, parents learn what to say and how to model the same positive social skills that Lindy teaches in schools.
