Damien is a career educator. Some would say he is somewhat institutionalised, as he went from high school to university then back to high school and never left! He’d have it no other way. Starting in the mid-1990s, his career has spanned almost 30 years. Now a principal, Damien has worked in a variety of schools: primary, secondary, public, independent, all-girls, all-boys and co-ed.
In The Teaching Game, Damien Barry shares his teaching experience, tactics, strategies, and pure classroom survival instincts gained from over 3 decades in the teaching game.
Damien has an MBA, a Doctorate in Education and was awarded a Churchill Fellowship. He’s been a deputy headmaster and college principal, has coordinated year levels, led schools and departments and headed campuses spanning two states. He’s always been a classroom teacher and remains one to this day.
The Teaching Game offers a very practical approach that can be applied immediately. You can read it from cover to cover, or you can pick a chapter that most interests you. Full of tools, techniques, tips, and strategies that you will apply to have some semblance of a decent lesson, to engage kids, to settle them down, to reduce disruption, to keep your own energy up for a day, a week, a term, a year.
