The book launch for Mainstream Primary Schooling Your Special-Needs Child at We Rock the Spectrum in Moorabbin was nothing short of magical. What an afternoon it was – one that will stay with everyone who attended for a long time.

The venue was buzzing with energy as families arrived, kids immediately gravitating toward the sensory play equipment while parents reconnected with old friends and made new ones. There's something special about We Rock the Spectrum – it truly lives up to its motto of being 'a place where you never have to say sorry' – and it provided the perfect backdrop for celebrating this very personal book.
The turnout was incredible. The event reached capacity, and the room was filled with such a wonderful cross-section of the community – parents, educators, therapists, grandparents and children of all ages. It felt like a true celebration of the village that supports special-needs families.

The formal part of the afternoon was beautifully hosted by Meg Durham, host of The School of Wellbeing podcast, who has been instrumental in bringing this book to life.

The highlight was hearing from the incredible contributors who shared their stories in the book. Many read their pieces, bringing their experiences to life in a way that had many wiping away tears. Their vulnerability and wisdom reminded everyone why this book exists – to support families on similar journeys.

As families began to leave around 5pm, each person took a lolly bag filled with a book cookie, lollies and a fidget toy – but more importantly, they left with that special feeling you get when you've been part of something meaningful.

The afternoon reminded everyone present why Alicia Cohen wrote this book – for the beautiful, resilient community that shows up for each other, time and again. Thanks to Rebeccca Mercuri from We Rock the Spectrum Moorabbin for hosting such a welcoming event, and to everyone who came to celebrate.
What a day to remember. 💙
